Montebello Adventure 2011
September 28, 2011, 11:35:18 AM
Well to those of you who were skeptical and said it could not be done !!!! well WE DID IT.

After 12 months of organising and guys flying in from Queensland - Japan and Perth we steamed off with 23 guys and gals and 6 boats  on the morning of the 18th ( a bit later than planned , who was that fool who got stuck on the sand bar ?) The weather was fierce so the 3 out of 6 boats that were not being towed out punched it all the way out for the 120 km crossing , to say it was tough going is a understatement , 5 and a half hours later we arrived to the sheltered waters of the Montebello Islands and waited for the charter to arrive with the other two boats in tow and a week worth of food- booze - fuel- freezers - camping gear and 10 tons of tackle. Having finally off loaded everything we settled down to dinner and drinks and a well deserved drink and sleep.

Those of you that were there will know i did not get a lot of fishing in so im happy for you to add your own comments to this thread,

Im glad that we had such a diverse group of guys ( mechanics - electricians- auto sparkies ) luckily nothing went wrong with the 7 boats out there and the only weather did not play the game , !! fishing the outside reef was a challenge daily but those who ventured out reaped the rewards, the fishing within the labyrinth of islands and reef was hit and miss but awesome fun anyway ,

Im not going to make this a marathon post , simply - thanks to everyone !! you helped whenever help was needed , this was not just a fishing trip - the actual adventure was bigger , stories were told - knowledge was shared freely and old friends caught up and new friendships were cemented . I was glad to be part of it !!!

What an amazing experience the Montes is! A huge thanks to Jim, Phil and the crew for putting together such an awesome experience.

Here are just a few pictures from the trip, I'll be doing an article for the Tightline Emag shortly with a full report.

There is so much good ground to explore over there - definitely have to go back and give it another go. There are definitely some huge GT's to be caught as well!

Cheers
