buying a new heavy rod

(1/3) > >>

Kasey Leong:
Hi guys,
My Wild Violence snapped on only the second fish of my last trip - I'm not quite sure why. I was running quite a high drag but even then was shocked to see my Carpenter buckle over that way - the only thing I can think of was that perhaps the blank was damaged. You can see from the photo that where it broke was not a result of high-sticking.

Anyway, I now need a replacement rod for the very heavy end of the scale. I really like the Fisherman GT Game RSH but I don't have that kind of cash or time to burn - which rules out replacing the Carpenter with another Carpenter I think. These rods would be well over 1100 AUD.

Are there any recommendations for another rod suited for big chuggers? I'm not very familiar with the Ripple Fishers. So far all I have set my eyes set on is the Hot's Gipang 7'5" XXH - both for its availability and price. Perhaps there are a few other suggestions out there for me to look at?

Kasey,

Please check your emails.

Hi Kasey ,

That rod of yours is a JDM model , in the past such rods are exported under the label RD-X but no longer on offer now .

I have seen another WV80XH broke in the same fashion as yours , it happened in New Caledonia sometimes last year .

If I were you , I would pursue getting replacement but this must go thru the party you bought the rod from . I agree with you , definitely not due to high sticking .

I once had the same happened to me but not on a Carpenter rod , it broke at the same area as your broken WV80XH .

Jon .

Thanks Jon.

Funny I have landed 20kg GT at Exmouth with this rod, no line out, but in NewCal this popped on a 25kg fish. I have owned this rod for a while now but I'll bring it back to AH and see what they say.

Kasey, If you're looking at the Hots I've heard better things about the Tide Lez GT77XXXH than the Gipang 75XXH... that said I'm not sure of it's availability.

If you wanna go Ripple you could look at the GT78H but this might be a bit too heavy for what you're looking for?? The GT78PF looks like a great rod for PE10.

PS. When do we get the report  ;D
