Hi everyone, just got back from a weeks jigging samsons/kings and trolling for southern bluefin down out of coffin bay down in Adelaide SA..We went with L.Wilson & Co to try out some new Live Fibre Jig rods and new Tiburon overhead reels..I must say the new Tiburon Reels were queit up to scratch, handled jigging like any other Saltiga,Trinidad,Blue heaven or any other jigging overhead..The rods we tryed to break on some of these big Sambos but couldn bust one what so ever, very high strength and load beautifully..Grahem from Wilson said we could bring 1 Rod of your favourite and 1 reel so i chose my Stella 20000 with Ripple Fisher Yakku Special...In one day we jigged up over 80 Samsons, out of the amount there were probably 5 that were small 10kg fish, but the rest were from 20kg to roughly just under 40kg..We got busted of twice by some huge fish which we were thinking they were big kings,we got about 10 kings from 10kg to 15kg and few annoying Barracudas which were loving our jiggs and a school managed to stay under our boat and bite the odd jigg on the way down the buggers...Our First drift at 9.30 managed about 5 fish at the 25kg mark, from about 10am till 2.30pm there were nothing but small rat kings and the handfull of 10/15kg fish, heaps of annoying Nannygais which the odd one was welcome abboard for dinner...from 3pm the Samsons came on strong for the afternoon bite with everyone hooking up at the same time and they all were bigger in size,my mate Brendon asked to use my Daiwa Certate with a Blade & tails Rod from Live Fibre to jigg up some samsons and i said yeah sweet no problems mate,so he walks over and ties on a Gillies Octa Jigg in Red 200g and drops it down over the school, rod raise take in the slack, rod raise take in the slack, then bang zzzzz
he's on to this big samson, gave him 30mins and he lands a samson that went atleast 30kg or more, well done to him, very patient he was as the Certate 3500HD was loaded with 20lb Suffix and 60lb leader.....The bite went threw till about 7.30 and it was time to head back to a island for the night and get into some beer..The rest of the trip we done alot of Sight casting at southern bluefin tuna which was alot of fun, sight casting with 20lb was surely fun and will definetly be doing it agian..Pics are below so enjoy
