Luke, I think you would be far better off with the little bit of excess capacity in the 14000 Saragosa instead of trying to force the 8000 reels to the limit. If you're looking to fish PE6-8, you will get approximately 250m of PE8 or 330m of PE6 onto the 14000. This is about the right amount of line you want, I think. The 14000 will be fine on the Caranx Long Cast.

A customer from England came into my shop,we talked and he said as he is travelling he is GT fishing as he goes around Aus..He said he had a Caranx Kaibutsu Long Cast in the hotel where he is staying and i said bring it in next time you come in,1 hour later he came back in with the rod..Very nice Pirabolic rod,he said he puts 130Lb braid threw it and biggest GT he has caught on it would of been 48kg from the solomons.... :o not a bad fish for a PE 6-8 rod and running 130lb threw it..Very light rod and would be good for stick baits!!

He was running a stella 10000 with a 20000 spool!!

Actually, I think you might be better off with the 18K as it is lighter than the 14k?

They actually share the same body but since the 18K has a 'thinner' spool for a bigger capacity it actually is lighter than the 14K. Not that it is huge savings but I'm sure you can find something to fill up the extra capacity.

Let us know how the saragosa performs against the bullies.  :)

I wonder if the 9 grams weight saved will translate into more than 9 grams with the extra line you can fit into the spool?  If the weight is almost equal I would go with the larger capacity reel.

My suggestion is to stick with the 14000. 250m is plenty of line and realistically, outside of some more specialised areas, you don't need more line. More capacity also means either more braid (i.e. More expense) or fiddling around with backing which I don't like to do.

On the line, Varivas GT is the best casting line on the market - but it is crazy expensive. All other decent braids will do the same job. They won't feel as soft or as nice to cast but will also cost half as much. Only you can make the decision on whether it is worth it but to me, it seems a bit odd to spend more on your spool of line than on your reel.
