You can try whit a fly fishing bobbin (for fly building) if you don't find the right one. To increase the braid tension, you can make 3 or 4 (or more) turns of the braid on one leg of the bobbin. I obtained reliable results with this method, even for 80 lb braided . Clearly the work is better with dedicated bobbin knotter. Actually I use this model:

It's cheap and well made (sorry for italian link)

Thank you for a very informative thread.

I also use the FG knot.

From PE2-8 with no problems.

In Saudi I am limited to casting lures from the rocks and the FG has stood up to the current tests.

96cm Queenfish

I am planning a trip to Vanuatu later in the year and the FG will be my popping setup knot.

I will have to practice the PR knot for jigging.

Very nice shore caught fish, Queenies can't resist the GT Ice Cream.

My jigging 'expertise' is limited to say the least but i can tie a decent FG so that's what I have been using rather than a PR.

Hi all,
Found myself pulling out my heavy Poppin gear the other day. Practicing on my FG knots.
Pe10 GT max with 240lb fisherman leader. 12 weaves with about 20 half hitches. Is that enough you recond?
My main question is, do you think it makes a different if you do the half hitches in the same direction (end up getting these spiral effect) or having the half hitches in alternate form?

Regard
RL

Have a look at the nomad vid of the FG on youtube.

By far the easiest method I have found.

Good luck!!
