Ripple Fisher Affinity Brighten 76
July 29, 2009, 11:23:46 PM
Can anyone here tell me much about the carachteristics of this rod. I understand they are no longer being made available, but I have been offered one. How big a GT would you expect to target with one of these rods?
Your oppinions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Earl.

Earl, the Brighten is a PE8 popping rod. In terms of the size of the fish you can target with it, it really is more dependent on the terrain than anything else. If you were fishing in Tokara or parts of New Caledonia, you could target GTs up to any size but if you were fishing a location like Shoalwater or Oman, you would be seriously under-gunned.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Hmmmm :-\ I'm looking for something to fill in on my Diamond Islets trip, and as a main popping rod for here in the Philippines. I dont think we have very big GT's here in any sort of numbers other than very  occassional, or at least we haven't found them yet. I had been thinking of Shimanos Karanx Kaibutsu surface monster, partly because because of the longer butt specs, but I do like the idea of getting a Ripple Fisher, which in this particular case I can build, but its only the Brighten which is available to me. I was told it was rated up to 14kg of drag, but I think the casting weitghts may be a bit limmited. Not ever having seen this model I really have little idea.
