I was just wondering why or how Japanese brands like Smith and Carpenter got their English names and if there is an alternative Japanese name for the products in the domestic market? Curious because their websites in Japanese language also use the English names. My theory is that Carpenter perhaps is a translation of the trade or equivalent Japanese surname (does Konishi or Kenji mean Carpenter?).
I did notice that Saltiga is spelt phontically as Sorutigga.
I imagine Carpenter authorities like Brandon and Jon would have some more educated background to this.
