Seven Seas shipments due soon.
September 26, 2009, 03:57:19 PM
Hi All!

We are expecting a shipment of Seven Seas popping rods within the next week or so (they had better arrive soon or Janelle will not have her new popping rod for Cooktown!).

It's a big call, though the casting ability and their ability to work poppers more effortlessly has certainly shifted my focus off my old Carpenters!

Anyone who prefers a fast action rod should consider these before dismissing them.
They are light, responsive and have a quality 'bling' build to them.
They are stand outs of this style of stick.

Also coming via sea are more Seven Seas popping belts and a host of jigs.

Watch this space.

Cheers

Aaron.

Hi Aaron,

Any chance you could post rod specs when they get in, including rod weight. I note it's not included in their website.

Thanks
Andy

Andrew,

We have some of the shell finish stickbaits coming with the order.

Andy
The rods are all in the 460-470g range, which is pretty good for a popping rod with a full butt weave. There are also a range of GT stickbait rods in the works over the next couple of months. Seven Seas don't give specific line ratings for their rods - so these are my ratings:
Big Pop 76 (already in stock)
7'6" Cast up to 170g
PE8-10

Big Pop 77 Ultra (already in stock)
7'7" Cast up to 200g
PE10

Big Pop 77 Magnum (coming soon)
7'7" Cast up to 200g - has slightly stiffer tip than Ultra
PE10

Big Pop 78 Powerful (coming soon)
7'8" Cast up to 250g
PE10-12

Cheers

Aaron,

That is a big call, would be interesting to see some more of these rods in action. Hope Janelle can show me how the rod performs in Cooktown.

What other goodies are they taking to Cooktown.

Hi Brock,

Hopefully we will have my Big Pop BBP76.  Seven Seas is working really hard to get it finished.  I didn't give them much notice and off course wanted custom colours and an inscription so fingers crossed we will have it in time.  Duncan is taking his rod (can't remember which one he has) and we will also be taking some of the Valkyrja shell finsh stick baits to  play with.  Seven Seas is doing a new stick bait rod, the first model will be available in November so unfortunately we just miss out for this trip.?As far as I know there will be some prototype Smith rods and also the new Saltiga Mavericks.  Thought I would give the Patriot Sailfisher a whirl too.  (Mind you I had a bit of a run in with a big knife and can't use my left hand yet.  I might to get to watch all of you catch fish on my rod).? We will be working out gear in the coming week.  I saw some Shell Shaping lures, FCLLabo and assorted Patriot lures set aside and the pile is growing.  Apparently Duncan has a hankering for Dogtooth as well so guess our weight limit is out the window.  (Now I know why he invited me.  He wanted to use my luggage allowance   ;) )

See you soon -not many sleeps to go

Janelle
PS Sent you a package yesterday????????????????????????????

Brock, it is a big call, though I was suprised too, when I cast the various Seven Seas popping rods against the Wild Violence, SP UHL and Coral Viper.

I reckon for an 'everyday' rod, the Big Pop BBP76 (max cast weight 170gm max leader 170lb) is awesome!
It slings a 180 Kong a looooong way.
This would take over the Coral Viper in a pinch if it were as good at stick baits as it is for poppers.

I have to get the full range back in to verify though there was a rod in the range that worked big poppers easliy yet had more lifting power than the SP78UHL.
The thing that really pricked my ears up was the Seven Seas ability to fire the bigger poppers out with nowhere near the tendon snap as required with the UHL, particularly with lures at its mid to lower casting end.
I think it was the BBP77 Magnum?
When we get the full range of the Seven Seas Breakers series back in, I will confirm this for you.

Cheers

Aaron.

G'day Mick, I've got the 78 Powerful not the Magnum, which I used extensively at Bugatti... and yes, I used Duncans rod briefly also.
