The Owners are not too bad if they last long enough.
Check out Bluefever game fishing gloves, relatively cheap compare to the Jap brands. Ronstan do some gloves suitable for fishing as well. Ronstan can be found at most marine/chandlery and yachting shops.
Otherwise my favourites are my Smiths, Fisherman and the one I used for handling fish and deckie work, Shout, coz they stink now!! lol

If you're not simply desperate to look cool, and you're wary of the shop attendant poking fun at the fool he conned into buying mega expensive "fishing" gloves, get down to BCF and check out these. They're called Medalist gloves and I've been using them all year. Been on quite a few trips now and no significant wear. Much tougher and better in my opinion than the Cultivas and just as comfortable. And they cost $15.
Fair enough in some areas you need expensive gear to chase Trevors, but gloves isn't one of them.

Another vote from me for light MTB gloves...
I got a tip from a fellow fisho in Indo, suggesting Fox Incline gloves... I picked mine up for pretty cheap comparitvely, around $40 I guess, and they have been awesome....
I would love a pair of the "real" fishing gloves, but for me fit is crucial, and there is nowhere locally that stocks any fishing brand gloves except the Cultiva/Owner ones, which I feel are crazy over priced, and they don't last at all from what I've seen, so I am not willing to risk shelling out big dollar for gloves that might not fit perfectly...
But the Fox Inclines are available at any biking store, pretty cheap, and tough... a good bet in my opinion...

I've been using the fisherman gloves for a while - its all about fit and the 3LA size fits me perfectly. I reckon you can get about 30 days fishing out of a pair. After that they smell so bad you'll want to burn them wether they are wrecked or not!
