Line Capacity For Poppering
Thien Dao:
Just bought myself an 18000 SW for my fisrt poppering trip to Fiji, looking to spool it up with 120lb Boat Braid (Pe10). Reading the specs, it looks like the spool will only accommodate 230m or so of line, will this be enough for GT poppering, or would I need more line capacity?
Mick Cunningham:
hi thien
i have puted my varivas GT pe10 (130lb)line on the the SW18000 reel and i got about 275m on it .. you would get about that much of line to the 18000 .. if you put it on tight no problem .
hope this help,s ..
Luke Wyrsta:
Hi Thien,
That capacity is acceptable but I do suspect you may get a bit more on than you think. A massive GT may test this capacity but such an encounter could be very rare.
Good luck.
Scott Maybury:
Yeah and you would have no chance of landing a fish big enough to take that much line anyway T.
Did you get a 20000SW as well, or was the other one you bought for someone else?
I am getting desperate for this trip, suffering major withdrawals
Thien Dao:
Thanks guys. I was thinking that with a breakoff here or there and the consequent loss of line, and a cast of 60m or so, there won't be much line left to fight the fish on. I was going to put the line on a spare 20K spool, but wanted to use that to pack as much 70lb braid as I could for jigging Browns.
Scott, the 20K that came with the 18K was for Arman, I have two 20's already. He's been doing a few hours overtime every week, and hiding the extra money from the missus so he can buy the reel. ;D
