Re: PE4 rod options, Smith v Smith v Zenaq?

Dave I got to give my GTK 74PG a bash for the first time this week and it is a terrific rod, I haven't fished the SJ but having used the GTK and comparing their specs I think it would be a winner, should balance nicely with the 8000 twinpower I have an 8000 Stella FA on mine

my second choice would be the KGS, had a brief go with it when fishing with LPB and saw the decoy land a 15kg GT with it on a plastic one night, nice rod

Not narrowing it down any  ::)

Smith GTK 73SJ
Smith KGS 70MH or heavy
Zanaq Fokeeto FC70-3 Twitch
OR Stealth STK76H
Hots Tide Lez 67H

I wouldn't be casting anything over 80grams.  Mainly 30 - 70g...

Rumours are , OR brand will not be continuing but beside that , most of them are based on Smith blanks which are available in the market for custom rod builders and not Smith's propreitory rods' blank ( KD , Tokara , etc. ) which they don't sell as blank .

Dave, at that weight class (PE4-5) you're spoilt for choice. The 75MHS from Carpenter would be about my first pick. Ripple also have a couple of great options which might be a bit more accessible than the Carpenter unless Jon has a spare one for you  ;)

I have to admit, that Stealth is a seriously nice stick. While it may not be of the same quality graphite as the other Smith blanks, the curve on that rod is just beautiful. Good luck finding one though!
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Hi Brandon ,

Thanks for the kind words for Carpenter , as one who knows which one is good and which one is just standard , your advise are valuable for anyone looking for advise when buying a good rod for the purpose .  8)

On the subject of BC75MHS , I can say at the present it's worth waiting for it early next year .  :-*

May I also add that there is a new range by Yamaga Blanks called the 'Blue Sniper' series. The Blue Sniper 75/4 or 80/5 is pretty impressive too......   :D

Haha your task isn't getting any easier Dave

I saw one of the PE8 Yamagas the other day and had a few casts with it, seemed a nice rod for the money, apparently very comfortable to fight fish with too

Yeah I was flat spinning there for a bit but calmed down and looked at what I want it for. Some of these rods are getting up there in the ability to cast 120g poppers etc, which I have got covered already.

So the leader at the moment is the Smith GTK 73SJ, now all I have to do is contact my mate fishing Rompin right now and tell him to find me one!

Cheers Dave
