Townsville 27-11-09 pop/jig

(1/2) > >>

Tom Grubb:
headed out for abit of a look as the wind gods were kind to give us 5-10, 10-15knots. packed both jig and pop rods incase one wasnt producing. jigged afew wrecks and came up with afew nice cobia, bludger trevs, tea leaf trevs, and a number of leaders with missing jigs. i even chucked on a plastic squid i had and it got munched by a bludger, they were thick and hungry. Had abit of a pop around the reef but couldnt find much bait only produced a hand full of fish no bigger than 12kg. thought we were in for a better pop session as first cast i hooked up.

Sam Conacher:
awesome.

the condition's and the sea look unreal.

those cobia are very good eating,  one of my favourite.

if it is ok of me asking you Tom,

where about's in or of Townsville is this?

Tom Grubb:
the seas were very average on the way out, still abit lumpy from the previous days, but soon enough dropped off. yes cobia are very good on the table, let the big one go tho.. too good to take home. We always head off from townsville port, this trip we fished around keeper reef, there are afew good wrecks in the area.

Scott Maybury:
Hey Tom what sort of jigs and jigging action do you use for the treva, cobia etc? Will they chase down a fast moving knife jig?

Tom Grubb:
the trevs love your smaller knife jigs, 150 and smaller, fast short jigs winding that reel as fast as you can :-). for cobia/trout/sweetlip etc we use the plastics, mainly working them up to 3m from the bottom.
