Topwater Caranx Ignobilis: Giant Trevally (GT) > Reports & Expeditions
Backyard popper session
Duncan O'Connell:
I haven't had much time to get out over the last few weeks with all the christmas rush going on, but with a 5 knot forecast, I really couldn't pass up the opportunity. Fish Head staffer Tom and myself took the Galey out through the South Passage to see if we could find a few pelagics and GT's. The fishing was pretty tough throughout the morning with biteoffs and bustoffs for Tom on the plastics. All that changed when a pack of GT's popped up beside the boat intent on smashing a bunch of hapless baitfish. I was hooked up within a couple of cranks to a nice fish. I looked back to see Tom clearing the decks - I'd forgotten to tell him the rule about GT packs: Get multiple hookups first, worry about other anglers later!
Anyway it was a real buzz to see pack hunting GT's on home turf and its always great to feel the squeal of a reel under heavy drag!
The succesful gear today: Maverick 6500, Seven Seas 77 Ultra and FCLLABO SPP140
Cheers
Duncan

Nice Brissy GT Duncan, spewing good weather forcast tomorrow, I have the day off but no one else does. Another Galey GT, will have to let Tony know they have caught a few. Just hearing about them getting caught locally keeps me going trip after trip.

Duncan O'Connell:
Hi Peter,
We do have the Zenaq gloves in stock. We have:
Large - red
XL - red and blue
3L - blue
They are $89.95.
Duncan has a few sets of them (because at 3 in the morning you are guaranteed to find one pair and for loaner gloves when we take customers out).
I throw them in the washing machine after every trip and they are still surviving even with no respect and tlc.
Cheers,
Janelle
