Shimano Ultralight Carbon Knob Installation

Luke Wyrsta:
They should sit flush.

Maybe you have damaged the thread?

Either way, it's only a cap fitting. If it is damaged, you'll need to pack the cavity with grease and make the best of it.

Joseph Ngan:
It is supposed to sit flush. You actually need a smaller and thinner O ring. The one it comes with will never sit flush. You will need to visit a hardware store.

I opened the JDM model and O ring is much smaller.

Cannot say I have that problem, mine sits flush and is aftermarket (not purchased with JDM model)

Brandon Khoo:
Joe, you sure on this? Both of mine were acquired here and I had no problems whatsoever.

Also, the aftermarket carbon knob would be a relatively low sales items. Is there even an export model or do Shimano simply export the JDM to all markets?

Joseph Ngan:
I am sure. It just comes down to the O ring. I also have purchased knobs here and there are the same as the JDM version. Maybe you were lucky to get the right O ring while Eric and i didnt.

Its not that big a deal... an O ring is not even a $1. All 3 of my knobs now sit flush.

Just pointing out Eric is better off with a $1 outlay rather than going without a O ring if he wants it to sit flush.... and the O ring is supposed to sit in the groove, not above it.
