Nomad 5th - 11th March
February 26, 2010, 12:48:49 PM
Well im just sorting out the last little bits of admin and less than 1 week before my trip starts.

I shall take numerous photos of all the big 60kg+ GT's i catch lol failing that i will take a photo of me holding the bait.

If the GT popping community could all say a little prayer for hungry fish and calm seas i would be very grateful.

Gday Dorian, check out www.bom.gov.au/marine then the forecast wind map. At this stage the 4th is blowing 5 to 10 which is great for your trip out. Once out there youll be right.  And Gav is a gt newbie as well :)

Of the 14 of us on the first GT drive out last year only 5 had seriously popped before.  I think you'll find the trip attracts a lot of the newcomers who'd like to try a charter out before stepping up to the full blown fly out ones.  We had a great time, enjoy.

Hi Dorian, well after today I can say that Gavin is no longer a gt virgin. We headed out after a gentleman's start at 8:30 and popped the local islands. Awesome 4.7m tides at the moment give or take .1/.2 for the tsunami!! Bait stacked up in all the right places.
I could only manage strikes and follows tho with Gavin being the only one to convert into a landed fish. He also lost a bus due to inexperience with fishing in rough country.
Beginners luck. ;)

Tuna 100, dogtooth 150 and a cubera 125 all had success but it was the skipjack 150 that did the damage.

No doubt you're bruised...185 gees in 5 days is a solid trip :) Were you one of the two with Glanny that released 22 (or about that many) in the one day?  Lookign forward to some photos.

nah i never got to bash some GT with Gav the man, the best we got in one day was 15/16..i nailed 8 or 9 of those.

I have to say GT fishing is amazing

Gavin did you proud, started off a bit slow but finished in flying form
