Deciphering Smith Rod Ratings
(1/1)
Dave Huck:
Hi,
I'm trying to understand how Smith rate the recommended lure weights on their rods? For example, the KGS 68M is listed as "Lure Weight ~60gm" and the 70MH is listed as ~100gm. Does this weight refer to optimum casting weight or maximum casting weight??
I'm planning on using one of the above rods for Jacks and Leerfish in Guinea - Bissau, I think the lures I'll be using will be mostly in the 50 - 70gm range. My inclination is to go for the longer rod but I'm not sure how it will perform with these lures.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Dave
Jon Li:
You must take into account the weight of the hooks + splitrings , a 100 gr. lures armed with a couple of appropriate trebles + splitrings for GT will weight around 125 gr. and further those figures appear on the rod specifications may represent the maximum lure weight and not the optimum lure weight too .
Jon .
