Hi all this was our last day from the Drive Out trip, the crew are all back in port at the moment restocking, back out at Elusive Reef on 27 June. As quick clarification, we had 7 of the group fly out yesterday, the remaining 7 travelled back to Mackay onboard Odyssey this morning. C.
Nick:- Left this morning with only a few hours under our belts before the plane was due to arrive so time was not on our side today. We were only looking for GTs this morning, and we found some! Drifting along a nice long ledge there were packs of fish coming up, some aggressively and some just having a look but it was good just to see them there. We managed to get two fish in the boat before having to be back at the boat at 11am but must have seen at least ten fish which was great considering the last week's hard fishing. After lunch we were in search again for some more GTs with the remainder of the guys and we needed to get Aaron a GT before he left and we succeeded he managed to land a nice specimen of 28kilos. We had a good afternoon and managed to boat a total of 7 for the day which was awesome considering the heavy downpours and gusting 30 plus knot winds. Lure for the day for me was the nomad Dogtooth 100g.
Tim - The water this morning looked fantastic but unfortunately the Gts were not cooperating. We raised 3 and dropped 2 in the session before lunch. After the plane had left just after lunch we went for the afternoon session and managed to get 3 into the boat with another 4 dropped.
The highlight though for the day would have to be Bronwyn's personal best Gt that went into the early 40s. She did an amazing job on it, fighting it like a pro and knocking it over in record time with her new improved fighting technique of using her body weight instead of her arms. Well done Bronwyn!!!! As with the previous days the stick baits were the true performers over the poppers.
