Popper fishing Andaman Islands
August 25, 2010, 09:18:35 PM
Hello
Me and my friends are going on a 8 days liveaboard trip to the Andaman Islands.
Everything is included except the gear for the popper fishing for GT and Tuna.
My question is what equipment do we need?
We are all beginners to heavy popper fishing.
We want equipment that can handle the pressure but not spend a fortune.
It is not sure that we will ever do this kind of fishing again so you dont have to take in to account that it should work for 20 years.
We have beenn recommended the Stella 20000 and Saltiga 6500 but I wonder of there is some cheaper option that will work.
Very thankful for any input and help from you guys.

Best regards
Jesper

Hej Jesper,

I think that you should first introduce yourself a little bit so all of us can advise you as best as possible.

Concerning popping in Andaman I work there and can help you. Let me know when you're going there and which place exactly (Port Blair ?). Tunas are there but not all the year long....
Catch and Release should be a reflex.

Ok here is an introdution. :)
My name is Jesper. I live in Sweden. Me and my friends goes on a fishing vaccation every year.
We have been to Florida, Bahamas, Thailand, Norway and other.
So far we have never tried popper fishing on this level and are looking forward to it alot.
Giant Trevally seems like the ultimate fish  :D

We will be travelling to Port Blair and go on a live aboard for 8 days.
The iternary is something like this:
The Sisters islands - popper fishing for GTs
Barren Island - Yellowfin, Dogtooth and GT
Narcondam Island - GT, Dogtooth, Yellowfin, Groupers and sharks.
Does that look like a good trip?

We will go either middle of february or end of mars. What do you recommend?

Realy need all the advice I can get regarding the trip and the gear.
Thank you
Jesper

Hej I'm leaving in Asele (lappland) !!!

Well it looks like a nice trip.

Concerning rods and reels it will depend on your budget of course.
Concerning lures you can buy some affordable lures like the Yo Zuri Surface Bull but PLEASE for God sake NO BARBS !!! Buy barbless hooks or crash them not to damage the fish and for your safety too !!! VERY IMPORTANT !!!
Then use big trebles, at least Owner 5/0, it depends of your lure of course !
Catch and Release should be a reflex.
