Damon:- Another excellent day’s fishing. It was certainly slower than yesterday, but we still had popper and stickbait chaos in the shallows, but the wind hampered our efforts to target large GTs on the outside edge of the reef. We spent most of the day in the shallows and lost HEAPS of lures to the resident coral trout, red bass, and wrasse population. We landed a few solid 20kg GTs in the shallows, as well as some excellent red bass and coral trout on the 40lb spin gear. The Sebile splasher 120 and magic swimmer 145 were driving the coral trout crazy, and we lost plenty of those. Scott also had a really cool take from a 15kg GT on his goby, right near the boat. All up, we had a very enjoyable day with plenty of fish, but without the same chaos as yesterday’s efforts. The tide also turned a bit too late today for us to try for another doggie, but tomorrow morning will be another story!!
Peter: good day today started off looking for a doggie first thing in the morning with the last of the run in tide but all we could catch were Spanish which are almost feeling like vermin up here!! We then went into the shallows as the tide was beginning to turn and caught our fair share of trout, lippers, bass and other reef dwellers. After that we went on the hunt for a gt we only managed to get 2. In the middle of our search for gts I ran over a lump off the edge of the reef that was loaded with bait and heaps of solid fish around it on the sounder. So we did a troll over it and Jamie got his second doggie for the trip which was around the 50kg mark. No more on the troll so we dropped plastics down on it and could only manage to lose more gear on fish all we could get up to the boat was a trout.
Alex- today was much the same as yesterday. Casting in the shallows seeing all the red bass and trout come screaming in and smashing the lures as well as the usual lure losses. We did a bit of trolling as well, not as much action as yesterday but the Spanish mackerel were vermin. We finished up before lunch doing a bit of jigging and the mackerel were out in force we managed to land a couple while getting chopped very frequently. We also got stuck into some big trout, jobfish and other reef dwellers on the ockta jigs and 80g metal jigs. The afternoon was a snorkelling adventure and the guys said the amount of life was unreal.
