Nick:- Another great day out there. Started this morning jigging and managed to get a really nice Maori Wrasse of 25 kilos. After sorting out sick passengers and broken gear we headed out onto the flats and managed to get quite a few reef species today including blue fin trevally, coral cod, boar fish, long nose yellow lips, trout, red bass.....Another successful shallows drift with not too many lures lost. We managed to find a few shoals of fusies but only a few were holding fish but still managed to get 2 GTs in the mix of things. Another great day and I hope the weather holds out for a little longer.
Glanville:- Decided to head a little further south to catch one of the channels at the end of the run in and it was on our second drop for the morning we hooked a quality sized doggie that unfortunately got beaten by sharks. On the change of tide we headed up onto the shallows and got stuck into a few fish straight up, some decent size cod fell victim to the smaller poppers and we managed a quick couple of GTs in the shallow water which made for some interesting fishing, the day continued fairly steady and before we knew it we had knocked up a bunch of fish of all sorts of variety. Decided to do a jig on the beginning of the run in and were very successful we landed a giant trout of around 15-18kg, a good size rosy jobfish and of all things a mangrove jack of about 7kgn so can’t really complain about that for a variety of fish! During the day we managed to catch 13 species of fish so an impressive variety.
Chris:- The plan was to head south today. We started off jigging while the tide was coming in. First and second drop lost some pretty big fish. Lots of cut off which I’m thinking were Spanish mackerel. Pulled up some nice sized coral trout around the 10kg mark but no dogtooth. We fished in the shallows for the rest of the day catching coral trout, red bass, GTs, job fish, floury cod and a whole lot off bust offs which made for quite an eventful day.
Peter: Started off today jigging out the front in a channel for half an hour, lost a couple of fish and caught a 25kg cod. We then went on to the flats as the tide was beginning to turn and caught a wide variety of reef fish. The flats seemed to be somewhat quieter than previous days but we still managed to catch loads of fish. Once the guys had enough on the flats they wanted to do a bit of trolling. There seemed to be never a dull moment catching all sorts of reef fish and pelagic along the reefs edges. We managed to catch most species of trout today from passionfruit, blue spot trout to coronation trout. The day ended with attempting to catch a doggy out wide we lost some fish but with no success. All in all another great day’s fishing at Bligh reef.
Alex- today was full of variety. We started the morning with a bit of light tackle trolling, jigging and a bit of popper casting. We encountered the usual suspects of GTs, big trout , Spanish macks, red bass and everyone’s favourite Mr Cuda. The action slowed around the bottom of the tide so we made the call to go outside and try for a marlin. We trolled the big gear and one small skirt which was a good call as we encountered quite a few yellowfin. We had a brief sighting of a marlin having a look at the baits but no bite. Just before we finished up this afternoon we had some nice action jigging, we landed 2 doggies some nice jobfish and a couple of reefies. It was a bit of a disappointment to come home as the jigging action was really starting to fire. Hopefully tomorrow we get a unicorn and some more hounds.
