ROD ADVICE:- Carpenter WV80XH vs Ripple Fisher GT79H (final spirit)
Luke Seyrek:
Hey All,
Would appreciate any feedback and advice regarding these two models. Matched with Stella 18k, which rod would be more ideal to work with when fighting fish and working lures. Im assuming the WV in nature may have a little further casting ability due to it being a few inches longer. Although both rods are rated PE 8 -12 it appears the WV is a much thicker and heavier blank and the RF seems more crisp.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Brandon Khoo:
they're different rods Luke.
Th WV80XH is a legendary stick and has been around for quite a number of years. I think if I was summing up these two rods, I'd say the WV is longer, has a slower action and has awesome power down low. It loads a fair bit easier than most people expect but is really powerful in the lower part of the blank. The 79H has a faster action and a stiffer tip than the WV and while powerful, would not have the same power down low which the WV has. I'd also say the WV can actually fish PE12 whereas the 79H is more a PE10 rod to me.
In terms of which rod would be more ideal for working lures and fighting a fish, I don't think anyone can give you a definitive response to this. It depends on the lure and the individual. What I can say is that the 79H would be more suitable for a big chugger than then WV.
I would not necessarily assume that the longer WV will cast further. It depends on the lure and how you load the rod.
Do you need such a powerful rod?!
