Nick:- Wind blowing in our faces hard again today as we left the sanctuary of the mother ship. The day was going to be tough again by the looks of the sea conditions. Our first stop saw a nice pack of GTs showing themselves and we had a triple hook up, one nice size red bass and two nice GTs in the high 20s. The rest of the day was pretty slow but still managed to pick off a few GTs here and there with intervals just long enough to keep the enthusiasm alive. When the tide turned we decided to go for a jig in one of the channels, on our first couple of drops Spanish were destroying our jigs which was proving to be too costly so we moved to a few other spots but were hassled by sharks. We decided to troll for a while hoping to hook up a nice doggie but instead we were surprised when we boated a nice trout around 20 kilos which just made everyone’s day what a nice fish. The guys were ready for some last minute casting for GTs and they came on force, there were “mobile bommie” schools of GTs probably 50 fish or more just cruising on the surface as all the lures landed we had a quadruple hook up but only managed to land three of them and one of them was a monster fish of 40 kilos. Nice to end off the day with a bang.
Glanville:-We started our day with a small game plan and as we stopped the boat I barely had a chance to get the rods out and one of the guys snuck a cast in on a bommie and soon after a solid red bass was in the boat, the rest of our day was fairly consistent and we managed to boat a variety of species including maori wrasse, jobfish, mackerel, trout, GTs, long face emperors and a couple of bluefin trevally. The last ledge we fished just before lunch seemed to be a trout heaven and after boating about 6 or 7 up to 12kg we decided to try and find some calmer water as by this stage the wind and swell made things a little interesting. A short lunch break was taken before we started heading back towards the mothership, until we stumbled upon a bommie in the middle of the blue that was flashing like the lights were on, it was seconds later and rods were bending and the surface of the ocean turned into a frothing mess as the GTs were fighting each other to get a feed...considering the conditions we had a great day fishing
Saltaire:- Did a little trolling to start the day and knocked over a few mackerel, got the guys to do a little popping before we went on the marlin attack, caught a couple GTs and a few other red bass and trout, tried for marlin but were a little unlucky the water looked really good but no bite, tomorrow might be the day.
