Glanville:- We started off with a plan to move a little south, the plan was quickly stunted when we came around the corner and the weather hit us like a slap in the face and never made the trip down a fun ride at all...the conditions were such that we couldn’t really fish the place I intended so I moved onto the flat and we saw a few GTs and managed to catch a few other species including a Maori sea perch pretty awesome fish, during this time we had a call from the guys on Saltaire informing us they had found GT heaven so we hurried to join up with them...the day went great and from 10:30am to 4pm we managed to boat 29 GTs from the “Mobile Bommies” of GTs it is just unbelievable how they congregate at this time of the year up here, thousands of GTs in one massive shoal on the surface and the second the lure lands near them the challenge is on to see which one gets it first, sometimes there would be more GTs out of the water than in it a pretty unbelievable experience...
Nick: Well we started off today the same way we started off every other day, getting blasted by the wind. As we ventured outside today it was clear that it was not a good option for us to be fishing the outside edge so we decided to head inside the reef and fish on the flats for the day. This proved to be a successful move as the day went on with calmer conditions and plenty fish around to keep us busy from maori wrass, red bass, trout, spanish, GTs, grassy sweet lips, boar fish, barracuda, blue fin....and the list goes on. So considering the conditions a great day was had.
Saltaire: We started off today on the search for some GTs for the guys. It wasn’t long until we came across a large green moving figure in the water which the guys up here refer to as a moving bommie - literally hundreds of GTs in a pack moving up and down the reefs. We even came across 4 patches of them in over 300m of water. Anything that lands in front of them is game on as 1 follows the lure 100 more follow its quite amazing to watch. Once 12 o’clock came it was time for the heavy tackle. We had no success today with the marlin but things are starting to look good in the days to come.
