Certate 3500HD or Stella 5000SW ?

<< < (2/4) > >>

Cam Munro:
Hey Mario - I have a 18K and 20K stella, no experience with the 5K.I have had a certate 200 for breamin, a 2500R for cray stuff and two 3500 HD's - one on a saltiga 68s ( for metals and upto 140ml poppers and the other on a nitro viper for plastics and poppers ). I'vegiven the certates an absolute belting over 4 years from gt's and big ey t's, dollies and tuna in oman to sbt's and snapper, gummies in Vic to Sails in Malaysia - I love em, even though i've had two break downs- one was a rubber seal in main body, the latest it play in the handle ( suspect bearings ) from a big sail on popper....yet to be fixed. I run 15 or 20 lb briad on em... lovely reel, great drag and pretty tough. Just another perspective!

Efendey Juneidi:
Hi Mario,

I own 2002 SW5000HG and KGS 70 MH, IMHO the reel and rod not match perfectly. If you want to buy SW5000,
I recommend you to pair it with POSEIDON OCEANHUNTER POHS70 on PE2-3 line.

If not, get 2002 SW6000 and paired it with KGS 70 MH on PE4. I used mine and it works better.

Peter Childs:
Mario

On the rod front check out the following, I have one of each they each have their strengths - all will balance well with the 3500 / 5000sw you are talking about;

Loomis Pro Blue 843 - awesome rod, suits 30 lb braid and working small - medium poppers and sticks + large plastics - heaps of reserve in the butt - a very crisp rod.
Nitro Viper - a little softer than the loomis, smaller poppers but a better range of plastics - 20 -30 lb braid
Saltigo Dorado 80s - beautiful long caster, light poppers and metals around 40 g - into the next post code - 20lb line, not much good for plastics.
Catalina 762 H - a little heavier (and cheaper) than the saltiga and a little more in reserve 30 - 40 lb, a greater range of casting weights for poppers and metals up to 60 grams and plastics at a pinch.

Hope this helps.

Mario Benedict:
terima kasih Eddie. The poseidon looks good but the price is not so good :-)

Thank you again Peter. I like the action of Loomis rods but for their price I think the build quality and components are quite poor, beautiful blanks though.
I'll check out your other suggestions. My ideal length will be around 7' as I will be using it from the boat most of the time.

Thank you Cam for the feedback. My Certate 2000 is still going strong after 4 years too, but then again it mostly catches bream although I gave it a good run on the salmons this morning.

Mario I have recently went through this exercise and went the stella 5000.

As for the rod I went a Samurai blank and had it custom built. using 30lb braid I went the NV8 blank which is 7 foot.

I absolutely love both rod and reel and it is an incredible outfit.

Here's a link to some photos and a report on it's first outing. The second is a youtube vid of a great red it nailed on the second outing. Couldn't be happier!!
