Hi,
Just wondering how you guys store your rods for both home and travel.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris ,

I store my rods inside rod tubes , both at home n when travelling . I have a 6" PVC schedule tubes to accomodate my rods which range from 7'9" to 9'2" overall length but shorter when the handles are removed during storage . When travelling I used the actual extendable rod tube to accomodate the rods I am taking but if the fishing spot is within driving range , will not bring the rod tube as my SUV will accomodate the rods without trouble .

Rod racks in the bedroom (this ensures fishy dreams) and an adjustable tube with wheels for travel.

A custom built rod rack at home (thanks to Bali carpentry skills) and recently a Carmate case for travelling.  I am about to use the Carmate for the first time and it seems like a very nice piece of gear, although a bit more thought about the design would have helped (it is un-lockable for example).

Previously I had an adapted hard shell ski case for travel but after many years of abuse it finally bit the dust.

Hi Mark ,

You can buy the lock for Carmate but incidentally I just misplaced the keys on mine , hence had to unscrew the bottom part to get my rods out .  :-[

The Carmate lock is pointless Jon as you discovered :). Bad piece of design really.  But I guess taping it up well does the job.

Hi Mark ,

Yes , indeed the tapes in various locations along the tube actually work better . When are you heading to Alor ? A few friends are fishing Sumba this weekend .

Yes I think Anthony is fishing Sumba this weekend?  I am off to Kupang on Friday and will be fishing in Alor from Saturday for 6 days.  Timed the trip to coincide with the dark moon.

Back on topic, I looked at the Sporttube as well. Not a bad piece of kit but I think the Carmate is better.

Hi Mark ,

Good luck with Alor trip , don't forget to take lots of photos . You probably will meet Anthony at the airport as they are going to Waingapu on Friday morning too , they are fishing for 3 days only so hopefully will see their report earlier than yours .

Sport Tube is a big rod tube , you can put 8 rods easy into it . Carmate can accomodate 5 rods , if packed properly n more if you separate the handles . Usually I only bring a maximum of 4 rods for a long trip , a light popping ( BC75MHS ) , a long popping ( LR86 ) , a chugger rod ( SP80M ) and a stickbait rod ( CV79/40RF SHP ) , so Carmate is enough for myself .

Carmate is best for me despite the shortcoming in security.

It's light and fits enough rods for a comfortable trip.

Although it means very litte, I zip tie the bottom end in.
