November 17, 2010, 01:33:17 AM
Hi Guys, What is the biggest Stella spool that will fit on a Aussie bought Stella SW10k?

Also what options are there in S.O.M spools?

Jarrad, I think your spool options are:

1. SOM No Limits 16000

2. A Yumeya 12000 (I think quite hard to source these days?)

3. Twinpower SW12000 (easy to find)

Hi Jarrad,

The SOM 16000 spool has comes in regular version.  It's cheaper as it's w/o the bling.  Capacity is same.

This spool offers the highest capacity of the 3 listed above.

Tony, have you tried the SOM regular spool ("non-No Limits" version) on a serious fish?  The (Teflon?) drag is very average indeed and hard to recommend for that reason I think.

The SOM No Limits spools are scary expensive, but top notch quality. The difference is way more than the bling factor - completely different drag system.

Hi Mark,

No, I have not tried the SOM regular spool for the 10K.  I have the No Limit one on my 10KXG and am very happy with it.  Didn't know the drag system was completely different between the regular and NL.... tks for that.

I did have a regular one for my SW10000HG before and thought it performed fine.  Fished in Maldives twice w/ it, but no GTs bigger than 16kg on it.
