Damon:- Started today looking for some GTs and they proved a little temperamental to start with. As the tide started rising, the GTs came on the chew a little, and we had a good session for an hour and a half just before lunch where we caught 10 GTs in quick time, with the biggest around 28kg. We had boated 11 GTs for the morning before a leisurely lunch back on Odyssey.
We had also caught quite a few nice coral trout and red bass in the morning, and a lot of barracuda! The afternoon session started really well with a 25kg GT first cast on a bommie just near the mothership, we saw heaps of GTs for the arvo, but the guys could not get the hooks to stick. After landing our 14th GT for the day, we headed to the shallows for a quick 30 minute session to finish the day. We landed about 15 fish in the shallows and lost 5 lures in 30 minutes, so it was pretty impressive fishing, and a great way to finish. Plenty of big red bass and coral trout, as well as emperor, boarfish, flowery cod and coral cod. A very enjoyable day with great weather, and can't wait for tomorrow.
Peter: Well I can tell you what a pleasure it was to wake up in the morning and feel a 10 knot sea breeze!!! We started of on the hunt for a few GTs.
Things were slow and steady to start off with getting the odd one here and there. We came across a bay that was full of bait jammed hard up against the reef’s edge. Sure enough the bay was riddled with GTs, mackerel, barracuda, red bass and trout right up in the shallows. The water was that clear we could see fish swimming around and under the boat it was quite amazing to see.
After lunch was a little bit slower we managed to catch a couple more GTs.
Then we went into the shallows with the light gear and caught a variety of reef species which was a good way to finish the day.
Saltaire: Well today started off a little slow we caught the odd GT here and there, a few mackerel and barracuda then started marlin fishing around 11. The water was purple and the temperature was 27 everything was perfect and we knew that today was the day. Slow until 3 then it was like someone turned on the light, we marked 6 marlin down deep and everything was in our favour. We pulled in a nice 300 pound marlin which woke everyone up, put the baits back in and 10 minutes later a hot 700 pounder jumped on and gave the guys a great show on the leader. I still think tomorrow is going to be the 1200 pounder day. Time will only tell....
