No offence taken Mark, I should have explained it better.

The blanks are made on a special mandrel and the blank is rolled from a carbon mix that allows it to load from a different section of the tip to work the jig and allow the blank to recover when using heavier jigs. It also eliminates the jarring when using the lighter jig weights. This was the sole purpose when Synit started designing the Seriola. 

If you own a Venom and so do i, you will love the Deepshot mate,  different feel ( more parabolic but with more lift . If your in Aussie PM me and I don't mind sending you one up to have a play with as I already have a spin version without so much bling  Better to try it out and make your own opinion.

And certainly no offence taken Anesh. I hope you saw my point. Your explanation is quite compelling.

I am not in Aus so cannot take you up on that kind offer. Next time I am in Singapore though I will have a pull on one at Kaiser for sure.

180g-550g Jig range

Those are the rods max limit ranges, it best optimum jig range is 200-450g but if you want to swing a 550g jig can although you may loose a bit of the feel at this range.
The objective for this rod wasn't to make a one rod does all more to have a rod that will swing lighter jigs in the sub 300g for big fish in the mid water like Bluefin Tuna as the blank has a huge power reserve in the mid and butt section for fish in the 30-120kg range. Because of the fast ram up in the mandrel and the carbon mix we quickly found was it is equally at home swinging jigs in the 400g range for Puka, Bass, Bluenose and deeper water species. The Seriola name came about for the Aussie boys chasing Samson Fish (Seriola Hippos) a cuzzy of our NZ Kingfish.

Hi Mark,

The thing that allows Synit blanks to work a wide range of jigs is probably the thin tip diameter and the mandrel taper.

I have worked a 220g Hooker up to a 860g Skill-L and even 1kg Jazz jig with the V550 4'8". Hard work with the Jazz 1kg of course But it can be done! And you still get reasonably good jig action across the whole range of jig weights...But of course the V550 feels more comfortable with jigs from 300-600g which is still a very wide range...

If you try to work the same range of jigs 300-600g with say blank with a larger tip diameter and slower taper like some JM blanks or a very fast actioned blank like say a calstar 760L which loads and locks quickly, I think you'd fine that the 300-600g range would be be narrowed considerably. The more parabolic blanks like the JM would probably work jigs closer to the upper 400g-600g range better while the fast calstar would work the jigs closer to 300g better....JM used to make blanks in 50g intervals...100g 150g, 200g, 250g, 400, 450g etc...perhaps because of taper they use which narrows the optimal range of jig weights?

The first thing our builder remarked when he saw the Venom blanks was that the blank had a very fine tip...and this is from a guy who has built over 600 JMs. He has used the Synit Venom blanks on many occasions now and is convinced that they can work a wider range of jigs.

I was playing with this blank in the shop this afternoon...when cropped in a certain pattern this blank forms the basis of the DS Seriola...comparing this blank with the V550 5'2" and 4'8" I can see why Synit says it has a lot more power reserve in the butt...this will be a very nice blank for big seriolas and doggies for sure!

Not sure where you are Sam but there is no Australian distro at present, so its either through Synit NZ, or via a reseller like KPS.

Just waiting to get a few pics back from Al Bevan's Shikari Charters, the rod performed really well on 200-400g jigs, but the weather blew up before I got around to trying anything larger. The rod handled the sambos we were on fine, and it took a benchmarked 15kg of drag a lot better than I did.
