Brisbane Floods
January 12, 2011, 09:19:57 PM
A big thank you to all who have phoned, emailed or sms'd to see whether we are OK.

We are very lucky that our area is unaffected by the floods.  We still have power, water and if you didn't know what was going on you would think that nothing was happening based on our area.  We are operating as per normal.

Our hearts and our thoughts are with all of those affected by the floods.  For those of you who know Tom his family are in the area that is flooding.  Tom has been over there with his boat helping to evacuate but at this point we don't have any other details.  My family is without power, but still have water and shouldn't flood.  Troy and Brett are both OK and shouldn't have any flooding at their homes.  Duncan and I live on a creek but ironically our creek has less water in it that it did two weeks ago so we are fine.

Thank you all for your concern but as I said we are still open and safe.  If we have any other news we will keep you updated,

Thanks and Regards,

Janelle

It is insane in so many areas here.  The supermarkets have sold out of food and the petrol stations may have enough for tonight in some areas.  It is a frenzy to get bread and milk.
We still have all our big shop freezers running so my mum is bringing hers and other neighbours food out to store.  They will cook meals here and then take them back as their area has no power and the shops have sold out.  The Redlands (where we are) and the Gold Coast are essentially flood free and our roads are still open so we can move around easily.

Take care to all of you who are in WA and the QLD floods.

If anyone is keen to help you can contact Volunteering Qld. They will be coordinating volunteers. Essentially you give them your skills, what you are prepared to do, where you will go and what dates you can do and they will match you with a need. Even if you have week off in Feb or March and can go then let them know and they will set you up. Their website is struggling at the moment but it is www.volunteeringqld.org.au or phone 1800 994 100

Volunteering has never been so easy
New toll-free number to manage volunteer interest for Queensland floods Brisbane - Australia, Volunteering Qld has set up a toll-free number for those who want to volunteer for the Queensland floods.
Volunteering Qld CEO, Jelenko Dragisic, said the number, 1800 994 100, will allow Australians to express their interest to assist during the lengthy recovery process.
"The country has seen the devastation of the floods and they want to help, this new number provides a central point to record all these offers of assistance," Mr Dragisic said.
"We encourage people to call and register with our Community Response to Extreme Weather (CREW) program and be prepared to help later, as various volunteer support will be required over the coming months."
Volunteering Qld works closely with key disaster management agencies and will notify volunteers registered with CREW of any opportunities to help with the recovery.
To register contact the CREW team on 1800 994 100 or visit volunteeringqld.org.au

Stay safe everyone and our thoughts are with those who are affected,

Janelle
