can only hope, Bun. Doggies are going to need very calm conditions to be able to get out to the sea-mounts. I'd focus the majority of tackle for popping and stickbaiting, both heavy and medium applications. I expect we will see quite a lot of reefies caught on poppers and stickbaits.

Hey Brandon do they do much jigging from the mother ship? On one of the clips ive got they hook / get smoked   by a few doggies pretty close to the reef.

Cheers
Rob

no Rob, they don't. The mothership is always anchored in a really calm, sheltered area. I think the only time it would happen would be if they were travelling from one area to another and they went over a spot they could not resist. The segment you saw was on their maiden voyage in the Odyssey with a group of Malaysians. That was an amazing session. The fishermen got absolutely destroyed - did not land one fish in that session!

I'm definitely voting "YES' to Accurate spooling, Cam!

I'd like to see you hook onto a 120kg doggie on the side of a seamount or a maybe a yellowfin of equivalent size on the other side of a reef you've cast over (so you can't chase it!). I'll put money on under 60 seconds - and that is only because it will take the doggie fifteen seconds to work out it is hooked!

no no no i don't want to be spooled although having a heavy drag ripped off at a great rate would be much fun, will practice hooking my line up to my car why the old boy takes of down the road, probably have as much chance of stopping the car as i would have stopping a big doggie.

No, I am sure you have more chance against the doggie than the car!!  ;D
It always makes me so happy to see someone get spooled although it makes me very unhappy when it happens to me  :-[

Not too sure about the need to fish sea mounts for big dogs at Marion. On the two times I've been there the biggest dogs where all in less than 70m, either outside the passes or around the lagoon bommies. Chances of being spooled, almost nil, chances of pulling the fish away from the bommies and sharks, well, just roll the dice and let the fun begin!!
By the way the biggest we saw stunned us all, an educated guess by some seasoned observors was +120kg. Good luck.
