Never used one of these lures, but I have heard of them, seen then on vids etc.

The first thing I thought about their design was regarding the holes in the front cup face. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a series of holes in the front (thru to the sides) of a popper mean that the air could escape every time you blooped the lure? I would have thought this would severely reduce it's ability to grab a mouthful of air, and hence, make smaller and quieter bloops?

Be interested to hear anyones thoughts on this feature of the Williamson poppers.

Cheers
Angus

I think you are dead right Angus. This is an odd feature.

I suppose they might be thinking that water will rush through those small holes and create some sort of jetting effect?

I purchased one of these when i first got into popping. What Angus and Mark said is spot on, the holes allow for a small bubble trail much like a skirted lure. But limit the bloop created and noise.

There quite small in size, very plastic looking and personally I didn't think much of its action. Preferring the larger presents the dumbbells and halco poppers created in the water. Well in lures of that price range . Or for a few more dollars the ever realiable cubera 125.

Halco Roosta is the great popper in this budget section of the market in my book, and superb value for money.

There is nothing innovative about this characteristic. Fisherman came up with this on their Krog Bigmouth many, many years ago although the holes were on the side of the cup. The Krog Bigmouth remains one of the best poppers ever made in my humble opinion.

I have no idea what this achieves outside of some bubbles.

These holes have recently been adopted by Patriot Design with their World Combat. Again, I see nothing innovative in this - anyone think the lure doesn't look like a GT3 or am I just being unkind?!
If it swims; I want to catch it!

A GT3 with holes drilled in it :).

In the same way as a PD Master Bomb looks like a GT2 with some bits shaved off.

Ive seen a black and purple Williamson popper land the biggest Gt on 2 separate 3-day charters in Fiji.
Thats 2 years apart fished beside craftbaits, seafrogs etc.

The terminals aren't strong and their castability is lacking but they certainly raised the most fish in that particular location.
Beats me why?????

Darren.... ;D confucious said....it doesn't matter if it is a black or white cat, as long as it can catch a cat, it is a good mouse.

Mark, it's too late. I grabbed them already. Now, trying to source some jigs and Halco poppers.

Cheers, guys.

I was planning to purchase a few for a plugging trip, but decided against it because I was told that the Williamson's aren't through-wired.  Is this correct?

Jesus, you'd have to be in a bad way to be taking instructions from Mark Berg on how to use a popper  ::)

You beat me to it Brandon  8) .

Also, not a great advert for the lure that he changed the terminals it comes with :) . I don't understand why these guys even bother selling the lures with hooks and rings when the first thing any sensible fisherman will do is take them off!  Same goes with just about every Rapala lure I have used.

Haha, guys. Not very good for rapala especially the hooks like VMC hooks especially the red ones.
Got them replaced with owner ST66 4/0 and split rings.

Hopefully, that should do the work.

The holes on poppers are borrowed from marlin lures , not sure if it works or not on poppers .
