Swivel Recommendations

Guys, apparently all the NT swivels are out of stock.

Any other brands would you recommend ? Poundage ?

Usage is for popping and jigging in Indonesian waters.

Running out of NT swivels would give me the shakes!

Nomad still have them in stock according to their website: http://www.nomadtackle.ashop.com.au/p/978559/swivel---nt-size-20-pack-of-4.html.  Size 2/0 are the ones you want.

If not, there are certainly overseas options.

Hey guys is there anything wrong with the Owner crane swivels in size 2/0? Just loaded up on a heap of these and I fail to see how they wouldn't be strong enough.

Hey guys is there anything wrong with the Owner crane swivels in size 2/0? Just loaded up on a heap of these and I fail to see how they wouldn't be strong enough.

They look OK  I agree. 

However, a friend who makes lures did quite a bit of testing on the Owner swivels hoping to save money compared to the NT option, and the tests did highlight some problems with the Owners. Most of these were only after the swivel had been in saltwater - ie corrosion related. 

Apart from their strength, I am amazed as to how well NT swivels stand up to corrosion.

So, you might want to bear that in mind and change your Owner swivels quite often.

NT's for me.

They are stronger IMO.

I use the 1/0's most of the time and they have always performed very well and last.

After a trip I simply spray with INOX and there are no corrosion issues (for me anyway).

I do believe they are the best swivels I have ever used.

Have any of you guys used these McMahon snaps in place of swivels & split rings?  I wonder how much of a difference would it make not being able to rotate like swivels?

I have heard stories of these snaps being a good alternative to split rings but I wouldn't replace a swivel with one, defeats the purpose of having one.

What is the purpose for swivels ?  To keep the lure from rolling?  Does it come into play somehow when hooked up?

The function of a swivel is to minimise line twist when using a spinning set up.

Opinions differ on the need for them. One of the best GT anglers I have fished with for example uses no swivels and no rings - just ties the shock leader to the towing point on the lure.

Personally I really like having a swivel there.
