Treble hooks

Please help Can somebody give me an idea of the size of treble hooks to fit to poppers.
I'm getting confused, I take it depends on the size of the popper? but what size to what size popper.

Hi Doug, as you said it depends on the size of the popper. The 4 most common sizes I use are Owner ST76 in 4/0 & 5/0 and Gama GT recorders in 7/0 and 8/0 for the bigger poppers. Generally you want good hook exposure without weighing the lure down so much so that it affects your ability to use it effectively.

Just to add to the confusion also keep in mind that there isn't always consistency of sizes between manufacturers.

Thanks Jay is there a formula to use ie 5"or 127mm 2/0 or 3/0 7" or 178mm 6/0 etc.

Jay Burgess:
No there is no specific formula as all poppers are shaped & weighted differently eg a pencil popper the same length as a chugger may require different size trebles. In my experience (and I'm sure a lot of other anglers will agree) is that surface stickbaits are the most important to get hook sizes right. Sometimes it just comes down to personal preference.

Doug it depends on the popper Jay's comment about the maufacture  is spot on most give their suggestion also a lot of the online stores also have listed the recommendation either from the manufacturer or from their own experience . Which helps big time with the japanese poppers if they dont have a english version  babel fish helps a bit a.
 there are 2 other options if you have a popper and dont know what to put on it call one of the a reputable stores that specialise in gt fishing the sponsers such as fishhead helped me out today when enquiring about some trebles . they will tell you what will work and will have the trebles in stock most likely or just name the popper and and ask if anybody on hear that can recomended the rigging .
