If you are looking for a rod specifically for Tokara, I understand distance is paramount. You might find the EP85 is what you need for this.

On the difference between the EPs and the TBL, the rods are a very different length. Notwithstanding the specs, the TBL is a specialist stickbait rod but the EP is still very good for these.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

@ Mark and Brandon,

Thanks for your views regarding the two rods!

Brandon, as previously mentioned I did consider the difference of 14 cm. Well - maybe you did notice that I noticed. :)  You are right about EP 85/36 not being promoted as a dedicated stickbait rod. As far as I can see, Carpenter does not indicate (in Japanese & English) a specific use for the rods (EP 88/35, EP 85/36) in terms of lures. However, at least one shop outside Japan mentions that the EP 85/36 is designed for stickbaits, but maybe this statement is a result of their own subjective interpretation. Based on the information here I think my mind is now set on the EP 85/36. Whether the rod eventually will hit the market before JP summer is another issue.

Best wishes,
Dan
