We used the method where you tie/wrap some heavy mono around the curve in the shank and press the eye of the hook downwards (towards the skin) so that the barb is "lined up" with the same angle as it went in.
Then you give an almighty yank and they come out pretty cleanly. The treble near my mouth had 2 on the hooks in quite deep, so he had to pull extra hard.
It all sounds very graphic, but it's quite easy and not as painful as it sounds. You tube has some videos that demonstrate it.
