Hey Ben where you going to be fishing that you need 130lb JB?

I see Nomads recommend the 100lb JB hollow (which I understand breaks at a much higher rate).

What would be the difference in application between the JB solid and JB Hollow?

I use the JB 60 lbs hollow (Whig again I believe breaks at just under 90lbs) on my medium setup (Stella SW1000 and Smith WRC 80P) and it casts awesome also pulled some medium GTs no problem.

Going to load JB 100lb on my Stella 18000 and Smith WRC Rocket.

Craig - The Coral Sea.

Could get by with 100lb, but figure nothing like some extra security!

Some friends have the JB 130 loaded on their Stella 10000 FA's and they were able to still get nice distance.

I believe the 130 breaks at 150lbs and the 100 and 130lbs.

Good luck for your trip hope you get a beast!!

Hey guys,

For what its worth, JB Hollow 80lb tests HIGHER than JB 100lb... JB 100lb is also thinner than JB 80lb for some reason... I believe because one is 12 carrier and the other 16 carrier...

Seen any number of GTs over 30kg and a few over 40kg landed on Tuf Line and Power Pro 80lb on my boat.
If the knots are up to it I prefer to run 80lb as the distance is much better than 100 or 130. Casting into the surf is much easier and safer with 80lb. Tuf line gets too many birds nests for my liking an this put PP ahead in my books.

Sachin i cant remember ever getting any birds nest problems with tuf line i have used it from 15lb up to 100lb what reel are you using it on,I have also used power pro line and had a problem with it braking way under its rating could have been just a bad batch but i lost a nice fish because of it so i haven't used it again never had any of those problems with tuf line i guess all brands of lines have good and bad sides to them and QC issues at times .

Hi Vasko.
The reel is a 10000 Stella FA. I have used PP almost exclusively on it but tried Tuf Line as the breaking strain is supposed to be more consistent. The line feels heavier than the PP in texture and diameter but the air knots are a nightmare and the PP casts further.
I have checked the line roller and that is working well so ruled that out.
I don't used PP below 80lb as the line strength is not consistent. 50 and 65lb PP have not worked well for me (I use XP for that) but 80lb and up are better than Tuf Line XP in my book which is also a great line and bang for your buck but I prefer 80lb PP.

Another point to add to your think tank is if you want to splice the hollow line then the 100lb is the hardest as it is a much finer weave. The 130lb is easiest and the 80lb next easiest. This is also reflected in the price, with the 100lb being the most expensive.

I have also found in my experience that the hollow braid is much abrasion resistant

Cheers

Amazed to see folks recommending PowerPro PE8 given its tendency to explode under decent casting load up.

I don't think there is much to chose between Varivas Avani GT Max and JB Solid (except in price!) and I have also had no problems with Tuf Line XP.

Does anyone know the diameter of the JB 130?  I ran into one site that said it was .69mm, that is like pe18.  Here is the site:

There's nothing wrong with recommending a product if you've had success with it.
