saltist 6500h or saragosa 18000f?
April 29, 2011, 10:59:54 AM
hey everyone

i was wondering what i should use on my trip up to the Whitsunday's next week for gt popping....i have just bought a saltist 6500h and a Saragossa 18000f..i have not spooled the saltist but the Saragossa has 300metres of 65lb tuf line braid.....what line would you guys suggest for the saltist? and what reel would you use? the weight means nothing to me as I've flicked lures all day many a time with heavy reels....i know these are low end heavy spinners but i cant afford a dogfight nor a stella so these were the best i could get....are they up to it? IL be fishing mainly land based around Gloucester island if that makes any difference..any help would be much appreciated

thanks

Saragosa without question.

Do some research on the Saltist.....Many have had trouble with them and I know one guy who did a recent fiji trip and his brand new saltist was useless after one day.

You will find Shimano Service WAY better too.

Do get me wrong here I love some of the Daiwa stuff and have three Saltiga's but the Saltist's are just not up to the job IMO.

I would also recommend the saragosa. I too saw a Saltist turned inside out by one GT in Fiji. We had rationalised the reels weakness because the owner had upgraded the drag to carbontex. Not sure if that was entirely to blame.

Best of luck

I'll second JT on that - I took that reel apart and their were shards of aluminium scattered through the drag washers. It might well have been that the added pressure of the after-market drag kit simply transferred the pressure onto the next weakest link and destroyed it. To be fair though, it was a 35 kg fish and it was boated by a novice angler.

i think you will find that the saragosa's screw in handle is in its favour as well, much stronger conection to the gears.
