Mark, I spoke to Tak and I will respond on the Monster Hunter seeing I have more experience with this range of rod than Tak and I did the primary testing work on the Extreme. The Monster Hunter range is a class up in power from rods like the CV and EP.
Having a powerful rod though, is not necessarily the answer. If the maximum drag you can fish falls within the capacity of the EP or CV you currently have, then you will not get much, if any, advantage out of a heavier rod. It could possibly even prove to be disadvantageous. If, however, you have the skill and strength to utilise the stronger rod, then by all means, you will probably find one of the Monster Hunters advantageous in Oman.
There is no doubt that the Monster Hunter range is more capable for the brawling battles that are required in shallow water - if you can utilise them effectively. As to which model, that is again dependent on your capabilities and how you want to fish in terms of line weight and lure size.
As an aside, we have of late been getting a number of questions about people hearing of the merits of the BLC range of rods for GTs. I want to reiterate that this range of rods is not made for GTs. They are made for yellowtail kings. To use one of these for GTs is akin to using a bass or bream rod for mangrove jacks. That is about the best analogy I can give.
