Synit DS 250 vs JM 3kings M vs ??
June 18, 2011, 07:17:16 PM
Any preferences, suggestions or experiences between these two rods? Or any others to throw into the mix? Jig weights 150-300gms, targeting anything thats willing to play ball ;) Most likely big encounter around here will be spanos to 30kg or an errant gt. Will be running a stella 8000 sw (not PG as its a dual purpose light popping reel) with PE 4 saltiga braid. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Hi Travis, I can not comment on the Synit as I am a JM man, the JM TKS M is way to heavy for your needs, the light would be more suited designed for PE3-6, 120-300 gram jigs with enough power to knuckle over most larger fish you may encounter, where about's are you based there is some stockiest around Australia with the JMs in stock including Fish Head ?

Cheers Andrew

Thanks for the feedback Andrew.  A mate has a 3kings - just scoping out what weight it is which will give me a better idea in that range.  Anyone else?  Any comments on running PE4 Saltiga Braid (~60lb) on SW8K over a Synit DS 150?

Hi Travis,

I owned a Synit Deepshot 250 and had it paired with a Stella 8K FA model and was running PE4 on it. Absolute honey of a setup and sound perfect for what you are wanting to do. Here is a pic of it loaded up with around 14kg of drag.....

The Stella 8K is a bit big for a DS150 and will feel unbalanced, I run a SW6000PG on my Synit DS150 with PE3 and again just a beautiful set to use....

Cheers,
Josh

Great, thanks for that Josh - exactly the sort of info I was looking for.  That DS250 combo i've seen for sale around the interwebs...any particular reason you sold it?  Already purchased the reel so DS250 it may be...

Sounds good Travis, yeah mate I sold it as I have another new DS250 to use. The 8K FA I hardly ever used as I also have an SW10000PG which I use a lot more often.

Cheers,
Josh

I've got a JM Three Kings L matched to a Stella 8000PG running PE4 Ultra Jigman. It gets most of it's use jigging samsons off Perth and is a fantastic combo for 100-300gm jigs. I've also got a JM 3K M in overhead/Torsa 20/PE8 and this is a very nice combo but this rod would be too heavy for what you want. This comes out when I need to stop fish.

Thanks guys, turns out my mate has a JM 3K M so in the interest of trying something different i've ordered myself a Synit DS250S from Fish Head.  Thanks for the help,
Travis

Hey Travis, I have a 3 Kings Medium with a JM PE5 reel running PE6 and it will fish this to the max!  Like others have said, A bit heavy for the PE4 - Try the light JM.  I also run a JM250 O/H with a Trinidad 16N and its ideal for the 200 - 300 gram jigs and PE4 - 5.

My PE4 spin outfit conisists of a SW 8000 Stella (HG) and a Smith AMJ 54H.  Its a nice outfit, but I must admit to to being in the "quick" range as far as retreives are concerned.  It no drama in shallow to mid depths or with the lighter jigs (up to 250) but it can get a little tyring in a long session in deep water with bigger jigs (particularly if the bites are few and far between).  I much prefer it for jigging centre weighted jigs from the hip rather than speed jigging with it under the arm - I use the overheads for that.  But I am getting old!

Cheers

Hi Travis, I have just aquired a MC Works Northern Blue 536HS as my PE5 rod that I will use with my SW8000PG. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but it's a real sweet piece of kit in the hands  8)
