Saltiga radiation knob
June 26, 2011, 02:13:49 PM
Hey guys,
I have a saltiga maverick 6500 with a broken drag knob I need to replace and was wondering if the Daiwa saltiga radiation knob are a upgrade to the reel or purely bling? Does anyone by chance know the price of a original knob? I know the radiation knob is around the $100.
             Cheers chris

I like them - I find them more precise than the standard knob
If it swims; I want to catch it!

What about the som custom knob? Has anyone tried them. I'm not real keen on the plastic standard one!

This might upset the apple cart, but I have tried and tested the Radiation knob and found it to be difficult to adjust in the final stages of drag pressure - i.e. the last half turn of the drag knob significantly increases the drag pressure (from zero to hero).

The SOM Drag Knob is more parabolic in application and easier to work with.

Also note I have seen a standard Daiwa drag knob melt under extreme pressure.

Cheers

Hey les,
If you were to pick between the 2 you'd pick the som? There both full aluminum contruction are they?

Hi Chris

The standard knob is mostly made of hard plastic including the pressure surface that touches with the friction washers

The Radiation knob is all aluminium.

The SOM is mostly aluminium with the pressure surface area made of a some type of rubber (high temp I presume).

Yes, the SOM is my pick as drag pressure increases in a much more progressive manner than the Radiation. ( I can't remember which site, but this subject of the Radiation has been discussed previously). Note that Plat.co.jp are discontinuing to stock them.

Good luck

you should check your drag stack to make sure it has been fitted properly

This might upset the apple cart, but I have tried and tested the Radiation knob and found it to be difficult to adjust in the final stages of drag pressure - i.e. the last half turn of the drag knob significantly increases the drag pressure (from zero to hero).
