Drive Out Trip 25 June 2011:
Damon:- a late start today due to the windy conditions and long trip out, but the fishing made up for it. Lachy landed a 34kg GT in the shallows, as well as a 22kg GT, while Ritchie landed a pair of 22kg GTs in the shallows. We had a couple of packs of big chinaman fish come and chase lures, and we had a spectacular encounter with a big GT on the ever producing sebile stick shadd 114. We lasted a full 5 minutes chasing the fish around bommies in the shallows before it won, disappointing, but a huge amount of fun. We had a great day despite the wind, and it is so nice to be able to fish around these reefs in comfort even in 25kn. Bring on the calm weather, but in the meantime, we're looking forward to a couple of good days ahead exploring some new areas.
Clint: Was pumped to get out on the water today for the first day of the new charter.The wind was blowing pretty hard so decided to find a quiet bay and do some light tackle, the boys got some red throat and other reef fish. As the tide pushed in I fished a sneaky little drain that was only 20m meters wide. We got a nice fish of 25kg out of it this tiny drain that ran up onto the shallows it was an exciting fight out of skinny water. After that the boys wanted to have a troll and we hooked numerous shark mackerel. A fun day to start the week looking forward to tomorrow.
Peter: We didn't get onto the water today until a little latter than expected due to windy conditions, buy I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions on the water once we were there. Even though it was blowing there was so much quality water to fish it was awesome. My guys were keen on the thought of catching a GT today but after half an hour they got worn out, in that time we saw 4 or 5 GTs in a spectacular looking drain one of which was of good size but unfortunately they didn't fully commit to the lures. We went for a troll after that and got plenty of sharkey mackerel and a nice size Spanish which made the chef a very happy man. We also got onto a school of golden travalley which was a nice ending for the day.
Nick : A late start saw us heading out like bulls in a ring. With the wind not as strong as predicted we were already up. We were going to go on an all rounder mission today. With some real slack tide and a small incoming this made this tricky for the rest of the arvo. We managed to entice a nice Gt up in one of the blue holes but never managed to keep the hooks in him. Towards the end of the arvo it was lontail mania time with a few nice patches of long tail entertaining us until the close of play.
