Ripple fisher jig rods.
July 04, 2011, 03:20:12 PM
Hey guys
Trying to decide between a RF 5210 and a 5215. I'll be running pe8.
Both rods are rated to pe8, though supposedly the 5210 is pretty soft.
Anybody had any experience with either of these rods?
Cheers,
Kurt Wilson

The 5215 is probably one of the best jigging rods on the market for PE8... I havent used the 5210 so cant compare but very happy with the 5215. It has no problems working jigs up to 420g. The rod was recommended to me by one of the serious jiggers on this site.  ;)

Thanks Joseph. How would the rod go with smaller jigs say 200g?
I dont see myself needing to jig much past 300g, i also wouldnt mind trying to use pe6, would that be too light?
Cheers.

Hi Kurt,

I used to have 5215, it is very powerfull pe-8 rod indeed.
IMO try to find another rod if you planning to jig in the range 200-300 gr.
As 5215 is good to jig with metal jig > 300gr.  :)

Thanks Philips
In that case ill probably go for the 5210. Its rated pe8 and to jig weight 350g. sounds perfect.

Hi Kurt, alternatively check out the RF568...it's still my favorite jig rod after 3 years. It will work 200-350 g jig easily...Cheers, Bwanna

Kurt

You may also want to check out the RF 5610  - a little longer than the 5210 and I find that it works the jigs better in the weight range you are looking at.  The specs say it will fish PE8 and i have no reason to doubt that.  I have mine matched to a 10000 stella spooled with pe 6 varivas 10 x 10 max. It is a beautiful stick and one of my "go to" setups.

I also have the 5215 and it too is a terrific rod, but as others have said, a bit on the high side for the weights you want to jig

Cheers

Thanks Andrew
What would be the max drag you think the 5610 could handle?

Good question Kurt!

I usually fish it with 10-12kg of drag, although i reckon it could push more if fished sensibly (ie no "high sticking")!!

Cheers
