Peter: Reasonable conditions today for fishing. Today we started on the quest for a GT with the run in tide until 11. We managed to hook a couple on a likely looking edge and lose a few more. The boys were then keen to go for a look into some blue holes and we hooked a really nice GT but unfortunately the hooks pulled. As the tide was slowing down trolling for Spanish seemed like a good option. We managed to get a few nice mackerel to the boat which kept us entertained for a while. We also hooked something very big on the troll in 30m and busted us on the reef after a long fight. Light tackle seemed quite productive catching a bunch of tuna and rainbow runners was quite fun. All in all a little bit slower today than previous days but great to be out there in good weather.
Glanville:- We started today off in search of a billfish on the back of the reef and were a little unlucky, our luck changed slightly when we went GT fishing and within the first five minutes had a triple hookup and got 2 fish to the boat, next point and we were hooked up again unfortunately pulled the hooks, 5 casts later a little further down the ledge and we got another cracker of a fish which tried its best to bust us off. I thought after a start like this we were sure to clear a shoal of GTs today but it did seem to slow down during the day, Leah managed to break the silence and come through with a GT on the light gear of around 20kg and epic battle on the lighter tackle between the reef, the rest of the day was a little tuff, although the persistence from the guys payed off, we consistently caught a few fish from goldspots to shark mackerel rainbow runners and 1 last gt to end the day off.
Nick:- Leaping spanish was a great way to start our day this morning, second cast we managed to entice a nice 12 kilo spanish to come flying out of the water and start peeling drag off. A few minutes later tight again on a GT, things were looking pretty good. We made our way to another ledge where we had about three packs of fish come up on two points fighting desparately to get caught but somehow they all managed to come free. We decided to head over to the flats for some light tackle while we could still get on top of the reef, hooking up to GTs and other reef species kept us busy for the rest of the morning. As time passed things seemed to slow down a little and that was the tone for the rest of the day unfortunately. It seemed all round things slowed right down at the second half of the day. On the way home however we managed to stumble upon frothing longtail which injected the spirit we were looking for all day and managed to boat three nice longtail before heading back to Odyssey.
Clint: Was a tough start to the morning as we fished the run in tide for GTs .We did not even see a fish for the whole session. As the run out tide approached I had my eye on a sneaky ledge that I new would produce and it did not disappoint. After a matter of minutes watching the tide begin to fold over the ledge we got a nice GT. We got plenty more action as we worked our way down the ledge and landed two more GTs. After that we trolled and got some Spanish and sharkies. As the run out tide began to ease we chased some reef fish and got plenty of red throat and mixed in the blue water was some mac tuna rainbow runners. On the way home we saw a whale and calf up close which was pretty cool for the clients.
