Bugatti/Elusive Lagoon Explorer 21 July 2011:
Damon:- We started the day with a bang and sparks and flames! A GT on the first cast, and then just fusiliers as far as the eye could see. As soon as we decided to have a troll it was again action time, with longtail tuna, Spanish mackerel, gold spot trevally and shark mackerel making up a hot session for at least an hour of non stop action. Once that bite slowed down we moved south and fished the shallows as the tide rose, and had a great session on the light gear and stick shadd's catching chinaman fish, spangled emperor, red throut emperor and a few trout. Another stop at a shallow sand patch saw swipes from 6 big chinaman fish that all failed to hookup, but charged the lures in the shallows. This was great fun, and as the tide got higher the fish slowed down. The rest of the arvo was fairly quiet, but we managed a few more fish on the troll. As the sun set on the anchorage all hell broke loose up on the shallows, with acres of fish busting up just to tease us for tomorrow.
Peter: Today we started fishing for a GT on some promising looking shoals.
There were baitfish everywhere but only saw a couple of GTs with some sky rocketing mackerel in between which is always fun to watch. With the GT fishing proving to be a little slow today we decided to go for a troll and it proved to be very productive catching Spanish, sharkys, gold spots and bludgers until the cows came home. As we were on our travels we came across many schools of long tail and Mack tuna which kept us entertained for a while. The remaining hour of the day we decided to give the GT fishing 1 last crack and managed to raise two beasts but unfortunately didn't manage to set the hooks. But tomorrow's another day can't wait!!!
Clint: After a bumpy ride to get to the sheltered side of the reef we were greeted by perfect calm conditions. The boys were keen for some GT action though they were playing a bit hard to find we managed to raise a couple of fish on a ledge that was loaded with bait we just could not set the hooks. The boys were keen for a troll and we had non stop action here shark mackerel, longtail tuna, Spanish and gold spot it was a cracker session and to top it off we got a 30kg GT. This thing was fighting like a freight train holding us in the current and Jamie's lower back was starting to give in. The boys were keen to try blue hole fishing that they heard about, I had the perfect spot in mind. With the boat positioned they fired away and a pack of GTs proceeded to smash Bill's popper. I reckon four different fish had a go at the lure and the fifth one got hooked. It was an awesome fight in shallow water. A great way to finish the day.
