Clint: The wind was up this morning so the first objective was to find a calm place to get the boys fishing. We started the morning off trolling and the sounder was loaded with arches. It was a super fun session with plenty of oversized shark mackerel. The flats came alive and the boys had fun casting the small lures for plenty of gold spot. It is great to see these fish bubbling in the shallows and hunting down lures. After that it was GT time and we searched far and wide for them but they did not want to play the game. There was one ledge we fished that was so fishy it was going to have to be game time. It did not disappoint we had four solid hook-ups on the run down the ledge and lost all the fish. It was tough to see that happen after all the casts the boys had put in. We finished th day with a cracker barracuda that went 30kg. It was great to watch this thing launch into the air for the popper.
Damon:- We had another good start to the day, with several mackerel landed on the troll straight away. The tide was very small today, and a strange movement as well. This made the fish a little slow on the bite, we still saw a lot of GTs early, but the trolling for Spanish mackerel was the highlight of the day. Lots of Spaniards in the 10-15kg size range were great fun on the light gear. A couple of other highlights were a 28kg GT to Nathan casting in the shallows, and a 15kg GT on the light tackle gear in 3-4 m of water. We saw a lot of big coral trout today, but no luck with them. We finished the day with a 15kg Spanish hitting the trolled lure 5m out the back of the boat as we pulled in the lines to finish the day. All up a great fun day with clear skies and good company. Looking forward to a little less wind tomorrow and a bit more current.
Peter: When and where can you wake up in the morning see long tail tuna
busting up right near the mothership while you're having your morning coffee. I'm sure you wouldn't in too many places, but the sight alone got me so pumped for the day and I couldn't help but throw a sneaky cast in of the bow of the mothership with a sebile sinking stick shad 114 and managed to catch 1 of around 6kg. What a way to wake up in the morning!! The rest of the morning didn't fail to disappoint with the tide just starting to turn when we got out on the water trolling seemed like a good option. We were getting hits every 5 mins or so catching heaps of sharkies, Spanish mackerel, bludger and gold spot travelley. The best capture was a Spanish around the 25kg mark. Once the run in tide kicked in we gave the GT fishing a crack but they seemed to be a bit difficult to come across with the small tidal movements that we had for the day. So the boys decided to go for a snorkel in a magnificent looking blue lagoon that Damon suggested we go swimming in, what a spectacular place it was indeed. The rest of the day was spent casting in the shallows and trolling whilst the boys were sucking back on some ice cold beers and taking in the surroundings it was such a nice day that any fish brought in the boat seemed to just be a bonus. As good as the fishing is out here it sometimes really pays to stop and have a look around at where you are because let me tell you you're fishing in 1 of the most beautiful and untouched locations in the world. What a great days fishing!!!
