Elusive Reef Lagoon Explorer 29 July 2011

Clint: The conditions started off pretty nice this morning and first up was a hunt for GTs. Straight off the bat we hooked a big fish on a shoal only to pull the hooks. The next reef we hit in was game time again hooked another fish this time it tail slapped the line and popped us of. It was beginning to look like one off those days where the fish were going to get the upper hand. Once again the next shoal we fished Peter had a screaming  run from a GT only to be busted off. It was Frank's turn next a little way up the same shoal and this one was hooked solid and we boated this GT. It was pleasing after the morning we started with and better yet it was Frank's first GT for the trip he was so stoked. He was then full of confidence and casting like a demon boating another fish not long after his first. The day got better we landed another three GTs the biggest going 32kg. During the slack tide we trolled and got a heap of shark mackerel and one Spanish. And at the end of the day managed to boat one last GT right near the mothership. A nice way to finish the day.

Nick:- Heading west today brought some new ground to fish and it looked really good. The tides have still been a little finniky and its sometimes seemed that there was no pressure edge and we have been finding fish in some rather strange places. We managed to see fish constantly all day today but just couldn't keep the hooks in them for some reason until Ray managed to land a healthy 30 kilo specimen on his PE 5 outfit and that fish had absolutely swallowed the stickbait down the hatch and it required a little bit of dentistry to get it out. As lunch approached we found a smart looking bay where there were two huge manta rays feeding in the current and there were patches of bait all along the edge, we must have done about eight drifts and every drift we managed to raise, hook or boat a fish which was incredible to see the fish just kept having a go which was the exact opposite to the lethargic pigs on all the other ledges who would half heartedly look at your lure. As the day progressed we kept seeing fish at most stops and managed to boat a couple more ending up with 6 GTs for the day and a nice 18 kilo mackerel thanks to Stewart first up this morning. Nice day out there today hope the wind holds out for us.

Alex- Nice day today, there was a bit of wind but we were running with it all day and it was very comfortable. First two casts we raised packs of fish but no bingo unfortunately. This was the story for quite a while hits but just didn't come tight. Eventually we had some nice flurrys of action seeing heaps of fish and boating a few here and there. We ended up with 6 gts and a couple of nice Spanish mackerel which we dined on.
