Fisherman poppers
August 08, 2011, 09:50:25 PM
Hey all,
Purchased some fisherman poppers the other day. First impression was the wiring seemed to be a bit rough, not finished properly.
Anyway, knowing that these lures are meant to be some of the best on the market i gave them ago.
Managed to get out on the weekend and throw them around. Landed one fish on a Fisherman S-POP 200, after releasing the fish i noticed the wiring on my lure had been totally compromised. Stretched, pulled through the lure leaving it loose and useless.
I realise that these lures get a work out when fighting fish and damage dose sometimes happen but for the price you pay for these lures i was expecting a little bit more quality. Or is this just a one off. looking at my other fisherman poppers the wiring looks very similar. Is it just me complaining or has this happened to someone else?
Other than that they have a grate action and get results.

Karl.

Karl,

They have great action and results. But with regards to the wiring (and finishing) you will not be the only person to have this happen - although this is a very extreme example after only one fish

as Kasey said, it is pretty extreme for that to happen after one fish but what happened to you is not uncommon. If you want bulletproof wiring, you'll need to get Fullscales.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

from my last trip to the andamans i had a masterd bomb stretch the wire 1cm.
1 fish 30 kg and around 10 smaller.
1 hour with 10 Gts and then i had to take it to the museum of dead lures.

I can re-wire the popper... Karl if you are willing to send the popper to me I can repair this and get you fishing again. Has there been any damage to the lure body?

Karl, Since it was a pretty bad first experience I will do it for nothing just the $ for postage to return it to you. Hopefully there is a few guys on here that can vouch for me and my work  ???  ;)

I have used the fisherman lures a bit, the s-pop 160 is actually one of my faves...I have found the counterweight at the back can become loose after a few fish, so that it rotates, but I have never had the wiring compromised or lost a fish because of problems with it, and I have a few that are so chewed up they are now sitting on the shelf at home, having run the gauntlet and made it to retirement

Yes and No Graham   :-\

Depending on what tools and skills the DIY'R has to start with, for most the wiring is not to hard but getting clean and consistent results and sourcing the right products is where most stumble. Your technique needs to change for each lure manufacturer to get the best results and to work with the lures design.

If you want to know more Graham send me a PM I am happy to help out.  ;)

Nice fish Karl!

I agree with what's already been mentioned.

As long as the wire hasn't twisted then you should be ok for most fish. This happens from Fisherman to Hammerhead...

Still getting an eye for sizing GT, any estimations on how big this one might be?

Don't suppose you took any measurements? It looks reasonably long but seems like quite a lean fish.. difficult to tell.

By the way, I forgot you were going here!  8)
