Jigging rod advice needed.
September 12, 2011, 08:12:24 PM
Although I have used the "search" function of the forum extensively, I am no closer to making a decision.

I have a trip coming up next year and am looking for a jigging rod that is a suitable weapons against BIG dogtooth.

It will be matched with a Stella 20000FA, used in 40-120 meters of water and PE 6-8 (or 10) lines and jigs up to 400grams (if necessary).
I am 85 kgs and over 6 foot tall so I should be able to stay in the boat  :)

I would be willing to spend up to the equivalent of 500 AU$ (400 euro).

Serge.

JM 3 Kings Special might be the way to go Serge... unbelievably strong rods, superb action, and the newer models have less "bling" bits, which has cut down the weight a bit...
they can cover a wide range of jigs, and still have the backbone to horse a big Doggie when you need to...

Do you know if anyone sells them in Europe as well ? Otherwise with taxes and shipping costs it will be too expensive I am afraid.

The problem here is that I cannot hold and feel a rod before buying so I have to rely on other people's experiences.

Hey Serge,

I know your predicament well mate, shipping and taxes, and not being able to "play" with tackle before buying means veryoften buying blind which is risky... I've done it many times in the past, and usually the advice I've gotten prior to purchases has been spot on, thankfully.

I'll have to check around and see if anyone in EU has them... I doubt it as we sold 5 JM rods to a client in Germany recently as he couldn't get them anywhere else, and we were cheapest as well...

Will drop you a mail with some ideas...

Dre

Shimano Tcurve 400 for all your jigging needs :)

If you can't catch it on the Tcurve it probably can't be caught.

Dre is spot on mate. The JM TKS is the right tool for the job 100%.

May i suggest you contact JM directly and enquire about their distribution channels is Europe.

G`Day Serge

If you want value for your money you cant go past the Samaki Jig Pro i use two of the Jig Pro range. The SJP571SH is rated PE4-6 & the SJP521SXH is rated PE 5-8 both are fantastic rods and at around $400 a rod i believe they are the best value for money on the market.

I'll assume if you targeting monster doggy will be near the reef. You'll need strong rod with a good lifting power to drag it out from the reef.
My choice would be Carpenter OH 55XH-S or RF 5220, but it out of your budget  :'(, maybe you can expand your budget it will be worth it. ;)
Cheers,
Jeff

A monster doggie will do whatever it wants to do irrespective of how strong your jig rod is.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Hi Serge

Keep an eye on this page:
http://greys.kinetic-fishing.com/

I know they will be selling a jigging model which is distributed in Europe. It is built on the Jigging Master blanks. I have the 350 g model and the fittings also look a lot like the JM. It has Fuji guides and Fuji reel seat. I am sure it will be more affordable than the JM models :)

Hopefully it will be on the market before your trip.

Best regards,
Peter

Thanks for all the help so far...

Peter, the site looks nice but I prefer to buy a rod from a brand that has proven itself already, since I only have a few days to fish I cannot afford a failure.
Will keep an eye on the site as they had some nice looking spinning rods.

Serge.
