Whitsunday monster!

Hi,

We just got back from an afternoon session casting for GT inshore of the Whitsunday islands.

We targeted the edges of deep rocks, with Nomad Ulua's in 120 & 150 sizes.

We found these Ulua stickbaits have an awesome action, they glide really well and thier movement is very natural.

Our technique was to work the stickbaits with a double jig motion, which made the lure do an erratic and sideways action.

On the second retrieve around the rocks, the stickbait was hit while it was rising underwater.

We didn't see a huge smash of the lure, just a fin slicing the surface.

The GT teared into the deep and we could feel it had a lot of weight!

We stayed calm and after 4 minutes it was at the boat and in the environet.

We couldn't believe the size and the weight of it! It looked amazing!

It took both of us to raise it for a photo!

We released it and it swam off strongly. Awesome fun!

Great fish.  I've had a fair bit of success on those Ulua's lately - they've got a similar action to a Carpenter Livebait which the fish can't resist.

  well done ...  i can,t wait for those two new ulua stickbait and i pray that they are coming from the santa or  for my birthday present  so i can head out and try them after boxing day as i might head up to yeppoon ....

Great effort guy's, 4 min fight time makes for a strong fish on release 
Stephen, I've seen Ulua's & Carpenters side by side & the profiles are very similar, not too surprised they swim the same

Have to be 40ish, though as Luke said, it can be hard to pick the weight from a photo...genuine beast though 
Those big G's strike a lot like that on the stick baits....they know they have it sized up to kill and there is nothing sillier trying to snatch a bone from a dog like that!!

This fish striked as the lure was about 1 foot underwater, we gave it two sharp jigs and let it rise up.

You could just see it's big top top fin slicing the surface! It was awesome to see.

It ate an Ulua 120 with 300Lb Decoy size 11 split rings & Decoy Jigging single hooks.

The rod was a Tcurve Bluewater Spin 10-15kg & Stella 8000, 80Lb Suffix braid + 150Lb Jinkai leader.

The 8000's are really good for popping and we really like them!

Yeah go the 8000!  I've been punishing mine for a couple of years now, always comes back for more! Nice and light too.
