Shimano waxwing these lures look cool anybody tried using them from a boat or shore.
Looking for some lures apart from poppers for a forthcoming trip to Aitutaki.

I think Waxwings are tiny casting jigs (effectively, spoons)? I am not sure a GT Tackle forum is the most productive place to be asking about them..... I suspect even a small GT would break one in half :).

One of our members here Sam Owen was casting them around on light tackle when we were at Bugatti.  They have a great action and kept getting hit but they seem to struggle to hook up because they only have one hook on the tail.

We called them the Anna Kournikova lure because they looked really flash but simply never came up with the goods! ;D

Even the biggest size isn't quite GT sized though

Some of my friends in Lebanon are using them for the Bluefin tuna and they had a great success with the waxwing!
they landed many fish this year, the biggest estimated 60kg.
the lure has a very nice action and i have no doubt that GT's will hit them, the problem is the hooks and the body of the lure,
the following Picture belong to Nicolas Nini from Lebanon (14 years old),he hooked the fish on a Carpenter Black current rod using the Shimano waxwing lure

You think GTs would routinely hit something that small Sami?

Mark, For example I landed 20 odd kg fish on the small shibuki and Jon the same on a similar sized prototype lure in Sumba. The termianls were not in good shape at all after that though :)

I have no doubt Mark,
the boys from Ocean Active target GT's with small lures out of Musandam and they have great success, off-course when it comes in to a bigger fish you better off with a bigger lure for many reason but that doesn't mean bigger fish won't take small lure  :)

Thanks guys :).

I had only seen the 9cm waxwings but I see there is a 12 cm as well. Still very small and I would be worried about a GT swallowing it.
